Our Background
The precursor to Morning Glory Gourmet was started all the way back in 1986 when a business called Bakery Fare was born. Bakery Fare was what is know as a "jobber" business. We had 3 trucks and would travel to 15 different Philly bakeries every night picking up bakery goodies and then delivering them to restaurants, hospitals, and cafés all throughout Montgomery, Chester, and Bucks county in Pennsylvania.
In 1990, Bakery Fare was sold in order to open up a wholesale bakery named 105 W Bakerstreet in a very tiny space in Norristown, PA. Now we were the bakery guys instead of the delivery guys. Our new wholesale business baked only 5 things - apple cakes, muffins, scones, brownies, and sticky buns. We baked so much of this delicious goodness that people were asking every day where they could buy in retail. Since, at that time, there was no retail store carrying our goodies, we decided to open up our own retail store.
So in 1993, we moved to Conshohocken and Morning Glory Bakery was born. Morning Glory remained a bakery until 1999, when we added gourmet salads, sandwiches, and entrées to the lineup. By the time 2007 rolled around, it was decided Morning Glory should be sold to take advantage of other opportunities.
But that does not mean we ever stopped baking our apple cakes. We have been baking and selling this 3 1/2 lb beauty ever since, waiting for the right moment to make it available online so that everyone can share.
